Writing Your Passion Project – Discussion

1 Comment on Writing Your Passion Project – Discussion

Do you ever start up a writing project that you know would be good for your soul? A project that would provide the best outlet for your emotions? This writing passion project is something that may not be what you’re used to writing. Or maybe it is! But if it’s not, what is stopping you from writing it?

As you continue to write, you develop a particular writing style and voice. This usually plays a part in the genre you find yourself writing in. Now, your writing passion project is not exactly that particular style or voice so you put it on the back burner. Yet you continue to go back because that project is your passion.

I’ve been here way too many times to count. My passions always outweigh the current project I’m working on which means many unfinished projects. What this also means is that I have a lot of projects in many different genres and styles.

My Passion

I usually write contemporary with mystery elements. Take a look at my published books Not Like Everyone Else and The Stranger I Knew (shameless self-promo). Both are contemporary written in the first person. That has become my style. But the more I write, the more I realize that I like other styles of writing as well.

Which leads me to my passion project. I love the way free verse and fiction mix to tell a powerful story. I also have a story that is close to my heart that could use the power of that style of writing. When I set out to writing my passion project, Speaking the Truth of Family, I didn’t know I would want to write it in verse. But the story just feels so natural written that way that I can’t deny that it’s the best option for that project.

Your Passion

Don’t let anyone tell you that your passion project isn’t good enough. It’s your work and your vision. You can make whatever you want to happen with that book. That’s the beauty of writing. You can write it anyway you want in whatever style. You can choose whether or not to published it. The choice is yours.

Just because you write your passion project doesn’t mean you need to share it with the world. It’s up to you!

So what is your writing passion project?
