I Am More Than My Nightmares by Jennae Cecelia is the fifth and final book in the Jennae Cecelia collection. I have been enjoying Jennae’s poetry since I first came across her on Twitter. Then I bought Uncaged Wallflower and I was hooked.

I Am More Than My Nightmares focuses on anxiety and fears and overcoming them. This collection is much different from her other collections especially the companion collection I Am More Than My Daydreams. Although, I did have a slight problem with the repetition this collection has. With repeating various similar themes became a bit redundant.

Goodreads SynopsisI Am More Than My Nightmares is my journey from being engulfed in fear to learning how to let my mind free when it is calling for a break. I have learned over the past few years how to better handle the worry and fear that lives in my mind. I am not perfect. I still worry and I am still anxious, but I know that I am more than my nightmares.
I hope if you have ever had anxious tendencies, these poems help you feel a little more at peace. This book is meant to be
flipped through when your anxious mind needs some time to unwind and realize, you are not alone.

The poems in I Am More Than My Nightmares are written in free verse, which is my favorite type of poetry. Unlike Jennae Cecelia’s other collections, these poems are consistently short, with not many long poems spread throughout the collection. This made it a very quick read.

Now, I’m not an expert in anxiety, nor have I been diagnosed with anxiety, so please be aware of that as I continue my review. I think that the anxiety representation is done very well in this collection. The poems were somewhat relatable to me especially the ones about overcoming fears.

The emotions that resonate in these poems is strong. I could feel the emotions of anxiety and fear throughout the poems and the final sense of relief when those emotions are eased from the forefront of your mind.

I’ll have to check this out. Unfortunately, I do suffer from generalized anxiety disorder… Yay? Sounds like it may be helpful. At the least, certainly relateable, if the poems you provided are good examples of the whole.
