Free Verse Morsels – I’ve Been Working on My Poetry!

Poetry. It’s been a long time since I’ve talked about my April Camp NaNoWriMo project. Well, guess what?! I’ve been editing it!

via GIPHY ^ pretty much my reaction when I started editing.

For those interested in my journey and to read other poems, click HERE. It’s the starting point of my poetry project.

I was in a serious rut when it came to editing lately. None of my projects screamed “work on me,” so I didn’t. Then a burst of inspiration hit. I’ve been wanting to get back to my poetry collection, and I finally felt like I should.

But enough backstory for today! I want to share with you some poems I wrote that won’t make it into the final collection.

Are you ready?

(All poems were written by Jennifer Leigh)

You Are A Beauty - Jennifer Leigh
You Are a Beauty
No beast required
never forget
-beauty is found within

Anxiety - Jennifer Leigh
Anxiety
takes many forms.
when with family,
it explodes like a supernova
leaving a remainder of
myself to get through

Anger - Jennifer Leigh
Anger
is built within me
like a fortress
my walls are up

Paths - Jennifer Leigh
Paths
are decisions we make
some lead us in the
right direction
others don’t
how are we supposed to know which direction to take?

Thank you so much for reading my poems. I hope you enjoyed this snippet, and that you’ll continue to follow my poetry journey!

  1. These poems are amazing! Thank you for sharing! 🙂 I don’t write any poetry, although I know I should push myself out of my comfort zone and try. Editing it must be a lot of fun. You have a small space, so you have to make each word count.
