Review: The Divinity Bureau

My reading is picking up. I’m getting through my review copies, and it feels good. I’ve been holding on to The Divinity Bureau for awhile because I was all dystopian out. I had read so many back-to-back that I didn’t want to ruin my enjoyment of this book. And good thing I did because Tessa Clare does a great job of developing this dystopian society.

Goodreads Synopsis: The world is overpopulated.

As resources dwindle and pollution throws the world in chaos, it’s up to a government agency known as The Divinity Bureau to decide who lives and who dies.

However, when IT Technician Roman Irvine sees a nineteen-year-old girl sentenced to die, he can’t help but wonder if there’s more than what meets the eye.

When April meets Roman, she immediately doesn’t trust him. After all, he works for the same government agency that sentenced her father to die just a year earlier.

But Roman is also sweet, kind, intelligent, and impossibly difficult to forget. As the two fall into a passionate but forbidden affair, the deeper they fall into the politics of deciding who lives and who dies.

The Hunger Games meets Romeo and Juliet in this addicting must-read.

Review

Dystopian books are some of my favorite genre. It’s horrifying, yet intriguing how one catastrophic event could change the entire world. Worse yet, that it is possible to happen in real life. But that’s the best thing about dystopian books.

Things I Like

~The Plot

~Roman – a kind and sweet soul

~The Twists

Things I Don't Like

~Telling not showing

~Weird Flashbacks

~Repetitive details

Overall

The Divinity Bureau didn’t disappoint. It brought the dystopian world of overpopulation and pollution to life where people are elected to die. This book easily keeps you wanting more with each passing chapter even after the slow beginning. Although the story wraps up, you know there is much more left to the journey. I’m excited to see what will happen next in the next book which comes out later this year!

  1. Love these reviews! Unravel Me is the slowest book in the series in my opinion. But I still love the books! And I can’t wait for the next book.
