Character Interview with Harper Nesbitt

2 Comments on Character Interview with Harper Nesbitt

Today we’re going to be doing a fun post. There comes a time when there is an extra Monday in the month and I’m not entirely sure what I should post. But I’ve had this idea for a long time so I figured why not give it a go. Today I will be interviewing one of my favorite characters from Not Like Everyone Else!

I’ve seen people interview their characters before on their blogs and I’ve always wanted to give it a try with my own characters. My favorite character interview is written for Jay’s Braxton Campus Mysteries series

What is a Character Interview?

So you may be asking what is a character interview? The answer is simple. A character interview is an interview run by me (the author) with a specific fictional character from my book.

What Character are We Interviewing?

Today, we will be interviewing Harper Nesbitt from my debut book, Not Like Everyone Else. She is a side character in the book with a very unique personality that I loved getting to know during my time writing Not Like Everyone Else

The Interview

*Though I will try to keep this spoiler free, there is a possibility that some spoilers may be present in Harper’s responses.*

Question #1

Harper, how are you doing today?

Hi! I’m doing so well. It’s been such a long time since we last chatted, so it’ll be great to catch up!

Question #2

You are described as the mean girl in high school. Why do you think that is?

Always starting with the tough questions, aren’t you? Well, yes, I was described as the mean girl, but it is only because I would keep it real. I didn’t let people hide behind a facade. If I knew your secrets, the whole school did too. I never meant it to be mean, but people never see it that way.

Question #3

How does being out of high school affect your relationships?

After graduation, my friend group dispersed. It’s as if we all became different people once the graduation caps came off. I lost a lot of my confidence in the year out of high school. I felt I didn’t have a purpose.

That being said, I found it impossible to make friends in college. I could never find people that I relate to. I would see my old friends on Instagram posting about their sororities and friends and I couldn’t understand what had happened.

Question #4

When you first saw Ryan again, why did you talk to her?

I knew Ryan didn’t like me in high school. You could see it all over her face when I would walk by her and Corey in the hallway. But when I saw her for the first time after high school, I knew I could be her friend. It was a gut feeling, but I figured I could give it a shot.

Don’t get me wrong, I did doubt myself for a second. My friendship building hadn’t been going my way lately so I was worried she would push me away. I tried anyway because Ryan was familiar.

Question #5

Did you really want to be friends with Ryan?

More than anything. After running into Ryan at the cafe, I knew I could be friends with her. I saw she was apprehensive about everything, but I had faith when she didn’t run away. Meeting up with Ryan made me feel like I had a chance of a friend for the first time in awhile and I didn’t want to lose that friendship.

Question #6

How has your friendship with Ryan changed since the arrest? Are you both still close?

No spoilers, you say? Fine. Well then after the arrest of a very bad person, our friendship did change. We both needed each other and leaned on one another a lot for support during the time after the arrest.

To this day, we are very close. We have been spending a lot of time discussing going on a vacation together with our boyfriends but that we’ve been finding it hard because she’s never free.

Thank you for taking the time to answer all of my questions today, Harper!

It is no problem at all. Maybe next time you’ll let me tell my story to the readers!

Well, I had a lot of fun writing this character interview with Harper. I hope you enjoyed it too!
