There are times that life is a mess of events that disrupt the everyday experiences we all go through. In that way, life is beautifully chaotic in the ups and downs we are all faced with. There is no easy way through life and although everyone experiences life differently, we can all be there for each other.

Today, I’m going to be reviewing Beautifully Chaotic by Danielle Holian who graciously sent me a copy of her poetry collection to review. I’ve been looking for some new poetry to read and I was more than happy to take on Danielle’s work.

So instead of me rambling on more about the book, let’s get to the review!

Poetry will always hold a special place in my heart because of how much it moves me. Whether the poems are about happy or sad topics, I know I will always find something to enjoy about a poetry collection. And that is what I’ve found with Beautifully Chaotic.

The poems in this poetry collection are written in free-verse with a combination of long and short poems to enjoy.

Triggers and Topics: hardships, abandonment, anxiety, rape, abuse, self-love, healing

This poetry collection tackles a lot of hard topics that I feel are relatable in many aspects. Some poems may be triggering, so please practice self-care if you read this collection.

In the beginning, Danielle does an amazing job of evoking emotions in her poems. I could feel her hurt and pain. Then as the collection continued, I could feel a distance in the words that detracted from the overall feel of the poems. Though some of the poems sprinkled in the middle and end do have the strong emotion like the beginning, many of them are lacking.

Beautifully Chaotic is a poetry collection about hardships and learning to cope with the aftermath and live a happy life. It’s a wonderful free-verse collection that tackles many hard-hitting topics that the author has been through in her own life. It’s raw and emotional. Though there are times that the emotion is at a distance to the reader. I think it’s a wonderfully written poetry collection.
